More than a thermostat. A smarter home.

A smart thermostat lets you control your heating from your phone, set schedules that actually match how you live, and get useful data on what you're spending. But the real gains come when controls are set up correctly — and that's where most people go wrong. We don't just sell you a box; we configure it properly for your system and walk you through everything before we leave.

Whether you want a simple single-zone upgrade or a full room-by-room zoning system, we'll recommend the right product, fit it cleanly and make sure it works exactly as it should with your existing boiler.

Why upgrade to smart controls?

Control from anywhere

Heading home early? Running late? Adjust your heating from your phone wherever you are. No more coming home to a cold house or heating an empty one.

Genuine energy savings

Smart controls can reduce heating bills by 15–30% by learning your routine and avoiding waste. The savings typically cover the installation cost within a couple of years.

Learning and automation

Modern thermostats learn your schedule, detect when you leave and turn off automatically. Some models even factor in the outside weather — pre-heating before a cold snap before you've noticed it.

See exactly what you're spending

Usage reports show you heating patterns in detail — you can see which rooms are being heated, when, and what it costs. Useful data, not just gadgetry.

Works with your existing boiler

Most smart controls are compatible with standard gas boilers — including combi, system and heat-only. We'll check compatibility before recommending anything.

The honest guide to smart thermostat brands.

Every brand has strengths. We fit them all — so our recommendation is based on what genuinely suits your situation, not what earns us the most margin.

A note on Google Nest

Google Nest thermostats were withdrawn from the European / UK market in 2023 and are no longer available to buy new. We can still service and maintain existing Nest systems, but we are unable to supply new Nest thermostats for new installations. For new installs, tado° offers the closest experience and is our recommended alternative. See tado° below →

Our Recommendation

tado°

European smart thermostat leader — excellent app, precise control, weather-adaptive.

tado° is our go-to recommendation for new smart thermostat installations. The app is clean and intuitive, the scheduling is flexible, and the geofencing (auto-on/off as you leave and return home) is genuinely one of the best implementations available. It also integrates with the weather forecast to pre-heat your home before a cold period — a detail that makes a real difference.

Available as a wired or wireless model, compatible with most UK combi and system boilers. Works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit.

Geofencing Weather Adaptive Energy Reports Alexa / Google / HomeKit Multi-zone capable

Hive

British Gas-backed, widely known and easy to use. Good value entry point.

Hive is a solid, reliable option — particularly if you prefer a familiar brand with strong UK customer support behind it. The app has improved significantly in recent years and the system is straightforward to pick up. It's a good choice for less tech-savvy users who want smart control without complexity.

The Hive hub connects via your router, meaning the thermostat works even without a live internet connection from the unit itself. Requires a Hive hub — we supply and configure this as part of the installation.

Hub Required UK Support Easy App Alexa / Google Multi-zone capable

Heatmiser

Professional-grade multi-zone control. Our choice for larger homes and complex systems.

Heatmiser's NeoStat and NeoHub system is our preferred choice for properties that need genuine room-by-room zoning. It's a professional-grade product — used widely in new-build and high-end residential projects — with granular control over individual zones and a robust, reliable hub.

More setup involved than a single thermostat, but the level of control it offers is significantly greater. Ideal for homes with underfloor heating or multiple heating zones requiring independent scheduling.

Room-by-room zoning Underfloor heating Professional grade NeoHub required Alexa / Google

Honeywell Home

The industry standard for decades. Trusted, simple and widely compatible.

Honeywell have been making heating controls longer than anyone else — and their T6 smart thermostat and evohome multi-zone system are both excellent products. The T6 is a particularly strong choice for straightforward single-zone smart control with minimal fuss, while evohome handles complex multi-zone requirements very well.

Honeywell controls are compatible with a very wide range of boilers and systems, making them a reliable choice where compatibility is a concern.

Wide compatibility Single & multi-zone Industry proven Alexa / Google

Drayton Wiser

Great value smart zoning. Simple to operate with a clean, well-designed app.

The Drayton Wiser system punches above its price point. It offers individual TRV (thermostatic radiator valve) control throughout your home, giving you room-level scheduling at a lower entry cost than some premium brands. The app is clean and simple, and the system is straightforward to expand over time as you add more rooms.

A strong choice for homeowners wanting to dip into zoned heating without the premium brand pricing.

Already got something?

We service and upgrade existing controls from all manufacturers.

If you have an existing smart thermostat that isn't working correctly, isn't set up properly, or needs reconfiguring after a boiler change — we can help. We service and reconfigure existing systems from all major manufacturers, including Nest systems still in service.

Not sure what you've got or whether it's working as it should? Give us a call and we'll talk it through.

Home heating zone layout

One thermostat isn't enough for every home.

A standard single-zone thermostat controls your entire heating system from one point — usually the hallway. If your bedroom is cold and your living room is roasting, that's why. Zoning solves this by giving you independent control over different areas of your home.

Bedroom zones

Keep bedrooms cooler overnight without affecting living spaces. Sleep better, spend less.

Underfloor heating

UFH requires separate zoning from radiators. We design and install combined systems.

Extension & annexes

New extensions and garden offices need their own zone. We handle the whole installation.

Different schedules

Kitchen from 6am, living room from 4pm. Proper scheduling matched to how you actually live.

Not sure if your home would benefit from zoning? Give us a call — we'll ask a few questions about your property and heating setup and give you an honest assessment. There's no obligation and no hard sell.

Properly installed, not just plugged in.

A smart thermostat is only as good as the engineer who installs and configures it. We make sure yours is set up correctly from day one — not left for you to figure out from a manual.

1
Compatibility check

We confirm which controls will work with your existing boiler and system type before any purchase is made. No wasted money on incompatible kit.

2
Supply & fit

We supply the thermostat and any required receiver or hub, remove your existing controls and install everything cleanly and securely.

3
App setup & boiler pairing

We pair the thermostat to your boiler and set up the app on your phone (and anyone else in the household who wants it). We test everything working before we leave.

4
Schedule configuration

We set your initial heating schedule based on your routine — you can adjust it later, but we won't leave you with a blank programme or factory defaults.

5
Full handover & demo

We walk you through the app and controls before we leave. Any questions — ask them now. We'd rather spend 10 minutes explaining than leave you confused.

Common questions

The vast majority of modern gas boilers — combi, system and heat-only — are compatible with smart thermostats. Older boilers without a standard 2-wire or Opentherm connection can sometimes need an additional relay or receiver. We always check compatibility before recommending anything, and we'll let you know upfront if any adaptation is needed.

Google Nest thermostats were withdrawn from the UK and European market in 2023 — new units are no longer available. If you already have a Nest installed, it will continue to work and we can service and maintain it. For new installations, we recommend tado° as the closest alternative in terms of features, app quality and reliability. tado° also offers better weather-adaptive performance than Nest did.

A smart thermostat controls when your boiler fires — it replaces your existing programmer and thermostat. A smart TRV (thermostatic radiator valve) controls the temperature in an individual room by opening and closing the radiator valve. For true room-by-room control, you need both: a smart thermostat to control the boiler, and smart TRVs on each radiator you want to control independently. Systems like tado°, Drayton Wiser and Heatmiser offer both components.

For remote control via your phone, yes — both the thermostat (or hub) and your phone need internet access. However, most systems will continue to follow their programmed schedule even without internet, so your heating won't stop working if your broadband goes down. The thermostat itself functions locally; the cloud connection is only required for remote access and app features.

For a 4-bedroom property, we'd typically look at either tado° with smart TRVs on each radiator, or a Heatmiser NeoHub system. The right choice depends on your system type (combi vs system boiler), whether you have underfloor heating, and how much individual room control you want. The best approach is a quick phone conversation — we can usually narrow down the right system in 10 minutes. Call us on 0208 050 4729.

Yes — this is a common situation. When a new boiler is fitted, existing controls sometimes need to be re-paired or reconfigured, and occasionally a different wiring arrangement is needed. If your smart thermostat stopped working or lost its connection after a boiler change (whether we did the change or someone else did), call us and we'll diagnose and fix it.
